About myself

My name is Vicente Planells Mari. I come from Ibiza (Spain). I’m a student from the University of Ibiza the UIB. At this moment, I’m studying the third year of my course and if I pass all my third year exams, the next year will be the last one at university.

At first, I wasn’t very sure about what I wanted to study. I was tempted to go to another country to study mechanical engineering but in theº I had to decide to study in my own contry, to be precise, in Ibiza.

In general, these three years, at University have been very good. I have met a lot of people, I have learnt a lot of new things, but it has not always so good. I have one or two lecturers without a real interest in teaching. At least this is my conclusions taking into account their bad attitude.

Most of the photos are mine and Matilda Ballester, except:

ITC

ITC is the future of education This is certain. I don't agree totally. They have a lot of disadvantatges and very often people forget to talk about then.

Computers and all electronic devices fail one thousand per cent more times than a chalck and and a blackboard.

ICT needs a large investment but firt of all we need more schools, more teachers, better theachers working conditions (ratios, ralary, respect...), because in Spain we have the worst education system in all the European Union. So I'm sure that at this time a large investment in ITC is a waste of money.

If we want a better education system, we need to go more slowly but in the correct direction. And it would be posiible in a near future for the education system to become very competitive and successfull.

letter to a friend

Hi Jimmy,
My first year in the college has been very bad and I'm upset. I haven't learnt anything new and not all the subjects are connected to child education on how I have to teach what I know.
I'm very upset because I don't feel this degree teaches me how to teach. Somebody told me that this all changes in the second year. I'm not sure but I hope so.
The funniest thing is that some teachers teach a lot of new modern theories of education but they do the opposite.
Sometimes I think to stop about learning university but this is the easiest way thing to do. So, I'm going to finish this degree to show myself that I can do it.
I hope you are happy and well. Best wishes.
Vicent.

Why did you decide to become a teacher?

Mine wasn’t a carefully considered decision, but a group of chances that brought me to what I’m studying now.

As a child, I was ill in hospital for a long time due to kidney failure. While I was in hospital, there was a little boy with the same health problem. He was only a few days old. As we were in the same room, I got conscious, while I looked at him, of how weak human beings are, especially children. I had the feeling that children need love, protection, and a good education that makes them value life, family and health.

All this was in my subconscious and, as I grew older and I had to decide about how I was going to make a living, I thought about studying nursery education. I’m hooked on children and I think I have the energy a person needs to work with them, because I feel like a child too. No way, to be coherent with myself, I had to end up studying this course.
